Healthix Update

Dear faculty, residents and PAs,

Healthix is live and available in EPIC to view patient data from > 50 hospitals and other provider organizations across NYC and Long Island.

Simply click on the “Healthix” tab on the lower left from within any patient’s EPIC record and the Healthix portal window will automatically launch. There is no need for a separate login or patient search.

If nothing appears initially, and there is a message on the top that says “patient records from other facilities are available. If the clinical situation dictates, please check “break the glass” on the left” you may do so if appropriate, which circumvents the required patient consent in emergency situations. You should then see visits from multiple facilities. You will need to look through the list and make sure that the demographic information for each visit you select is indeed for your patient (DOB, address, etc). Check the boxes next to each facility that you want to view and then select “view selected patient records”. This will bring you to a results review screen that should be pretty straight forward.

The first time you click on the “Healthix” tab in Epic you will be brought to the registration screen. Please fill in only the required fields (ones with a red asterisk). Once done, you should have immediate access to the portal and will not see this registration screen again. This is what allows us to have one click access to Healthix from within Epic.

Attached is a training manual specific to our Healthix build. There is also a training video available at: http://my.brainshark.com/Healthix-Training-Patient-Record-Search-743617388, but please skip the first 4 slides which do not pertain to us since we have one-click access.

If you have any questions, experience any problems, or have any good stories about how Healthix helped care for a patient, please let me know.

Healthix

Data on all NYU patients is available through Healthix by going to the “More Services” button in the lower left hand corner of Epic. Available data includes: hospital d/c summaries, cardiology reports, radiology reports, pathology reports. NO LABORATORY RESULTS ARE AVAILABLE for at least several more weeks. Similar data is also available from BI, SLR, and many other hospitals in Long Island and Queens.

Please let me know if you have any questions or problems.

Thanks,
Jason

VNS / NYCLIX Interface

Starting this Sunday, November 20th, a new pilot project with VNS-NY and NYCLIX will begin.

If a patient who is actively enrolled with VNS-NY registers to be seen in the Mount Sinai ED, VNS-NY will receive an alert in real time.

Mon-Fri 9-4:30, the on-site VNS staff person will either come down to the ED or will call the ED to speak with the treating resident or attending, giving them the VNS-NY team manager’s name and phone number in the event additional information is needed by us. If the patient is TBS, they will call AMAC and leave a call-in note in EPIC.

During all other hours, the VNS-NY Clinical Care Center will be performing the same duties, so this service will be running 24/7.

If you receive a call from VNS-NY and you need additional information please call the patient’s team manager. If you feel that you do not need any additional information, please thank them for calling, take down the VNS-NY contact information, and enter it in the patients chart in case it becomes helpful at a later stage.

The normal volume of VNS-NY patients presenting to our ED is 4-5 per day, so there should not be a significant burden of increased calls on us, and in some instances this might actually help improve care or safetly dispo a patient home who would otherwise have been admitted.

Your help in making this pilot program a success is greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
-Jason
